What Can I Expect During My First Visit to a Chiropractor?

After being welcomed into our practice, you will complete a full medical history questionnaire and "new patient" paperwork. You will then consult with the doctor. This consultation is your opportunity to express your health concerns and expectations, and to ask any questions you may have pertaining to the matter. It is also a time in which Dr. Lawson will express his role in your health care and discuss your health prognosis. A physical exam will be performed which may include orthopedic testing, reflex assessments, muscle testing, and a specific Chiropractic evaluation. In some cases surface EMG and range of motion sutdies will be performed. In addition, some cases will be referred for x-rays that may be necessary to determine an exact diagnosis. Then, depending on your situation, Dr. Lawson may give you an adjustment and/or begin therapy, if needed. Adjustments shouldn't be painful, although you may feel some discomfort until the pressure in the joint is relieved. Depending on your condition, Dr. Lawson may schedule a series of visits for care. We have no cookie cutter plan of care that is good for every patient. We know all patients are different and have different needs. Therefore, all care plans are detailed the individual patient.
